And this marks our final work on Fate/Kaleid Liner PRISMA Illya. Our primary interest is in seeing the manga translated, and with Kadokawa putting out an official translation (well, one chapter anyway… (-_-)) and Paitouch @ the Beast’s Lair doing a fine job with the ongoing issues, fans of the manga are completely covered here. We were slow as fuck on the series, suimasen for that, but we’re a sorry group, it says so right on the label…

I’d like to thank my fine typesetter on 3rei, Athos; our sporadically productive scanner, localhost for our Comp Ace raws; my proofer, occasional TL checker, and arbiter of ellipses pseu; and all of our previous staffers on FK, of which only its original editor GreenTea is still with us. Fate/Kaleid was my first work as a professional (lol) scanlator, and I also thank all of our readers for putting up with my sorry efforts over the last 4 years! I also hope that Hiroyama-sensei continues to go on to bigger and better things in the future!

Athos will be using his additional free time to conquer more VNs, and I will be addressing the promised SZS chapters, plus other random Kumeta backlog as translations are available. I’m also picking up translation on the sadly languishing Fight Ippatsu! Juuden-chan!! for Vortex Scans, please look forward to new chapters hopefully soon.

More Azazel this week, maybe possibly perhaps SZS. Please wait warmly as usual…

So an item that managed to escape me completely until the official site launch but that is highly relevant to Fightan Mahou Loli fans – Kadokawa, the publishers of Fate/Kaleid, now have their own online manga viewer at long last.

>> Comic Walker <<

The surprise here is that they are launching with English (and Chinese) translations of, as I write this, 26 titles (from 17 originally), and appear to be adding more. And one of them happens to Fate Kaleid Prisma Illya 3rei! Even better, it is free, as in beer. The model appears to be current issue and first issue free to view, and subscription for back issues (still not launched). Overall, a pretty decent experience, they use the Publus reader in browser, which I’m not that wild about, but the provided resolution is excellent. There are also free iOS and Android apps which are also pretty decent. So, as usual with the Japanese publishers, late to the party, but they appear to have a competitive platform. I recommend checking it out.

So… this poses a dilemma. We want to continue to support Hiroyama-sensei, and with the availability of free English releases, translated by professionals, there is kind of no point in Suimasen continuing our work here. (slyborg unfurls huge Mission Accomplished banner across the deck). On the other hand, it appears that they plan to do a monthly release cadence with the English editions, which means that they will be 18 months behind until the end of the series.

Our current plans are based on our core competency here, which is stalling. 3rei is on break this month as it happens, and they ran the next installment of “Girls, Be Aggressive” – also not clear if Comic Walker will have the bangaichi chapters or not (don’t see why not, but maybe they save those for paper tankoubons), so we’ll do that at the very least. Then we wait and see; if Kadokawa makes an effort to catch up with current serialization, we’ll hand them the baton and rest on our laurels, hoist on our petard, or something along those lines. If they do not, then I’ll have to decide what to do. Feel free to let us know what you think.

Meanwhile, elsewhere at Suimasen World HQ … GT is stalling Yumeko, I’m stalling Azazel 15, and taketori is stalling SZS 294. If you’d like to learn our advanced stalling techniques, do drop by our IRC channel and speak to one of our helpful operators…

Hiroyama-sensei must hang out in Akiba maid cafes a lot, he seems to know an awful lot about their uniforms…

Props to Athos for fields… endless fields… of redraw. All of you appreciate it properly!

Additional Yumeko, Azazel and possibly a special surprise for the RootP fans (in other words, me) out there in the queue. Think Spring!

Five Year Plans (FK 3rei Extra 2)

by slyborg

Suimasen Scans is 5 years old this weekend! The first release of record by the group under this name was March 15th, 2009, although I think the original team actually did some work as anons on 4chan’s /a/ board prior to this. Of the original group, only GreenTea still remains as an active member, perhaps he can add a few words when he sees this. We haven’t been the most prolific group, and we certainly have never been the most popular, but I like to think that we have taken on some of the more difficult projects out there in our time and have done our very best by them.

As it happens, it’s also four years ago this month that I joined the group, and my very first project for Suimasen happened to be Fate Kaleid, having been assigned the project by meki randomly once he realized I wasn’t hika and/or a girl. Therefore, I will proffer up the following in honor of the anniversary:

Couple of notes on this, since we’re like that.

– Page 1: The title in Japanese, Otome yo toushi o itadake is a play on the famous parting words of William S. Clark that seem to have launched Japan into the 20th century, Shounen yo taishi o itadake, “Boys, be ambitious!”
– Page 3, P1B2: Nanaki says neburi koroshi ni suru, what she meant was taburi koroshi ni suru – to torture someone to death.
– Page 6, P1B3: The last character used to write Moriyama Nanaki’s first name is also the kanji for ‘turtle’.

So, who can say what the next five years will bring, but I hope the very best for our current, former, and future staff, and all of the fans of manga out there that have read our sorry works here. Have a piece of cake!

The cake is still a lie.

Might have some KK in the pipeline, other than that we’re all just hiding under our kotatsu, except straykumo, who is enjoying summer Down Under. We should probably just move the whole group to the warm hemisphere twice a year…

(v2 to fix some screwed up 💖 characters on pg 10 and giving taketori his due credit on the credit page, suimasen. Not a real necessity to redownload, and of course the aggregators will now contain shit until the end of time in any case. Do uploaders get paid, I wonder? Don’t see why anyone does this otherwise…)
